For Patients
At Manly Haematology we believe that it is important that patients are engaged in their healthcare. Our emphasis is on providing a relationship where communication is a key priority.
We have undertaken to optimise this through our use of the Patient Portal. This is a secure online site for you to access all your Manly Haematology documents and view your appointment details. You also have the ability to upload your own medical documents, blood results and correspondence from other healthcare providers. A secure online health questionnaire is also available to provide further information to streamline and enhance the consultation.
Provision of a clear explanation during your consultation is our primary goal. This may be supplemented by appropriate patient information sheets, which can also be uploaded to the Portal for later review.
Further information regarding your appointment can be found by clicking on the links below.
Do I need a referral and an appointment?
A valid and current referral will enable you to a Medicare rebate. This can be claimed for you by the Manly Haematology reception staff after any consultation. Although, other health professionals, such as physiotherapists, can give you a referral, these are not accepted by Medicare.
Consultations are by appointment only.
How long will I wait for an appointment?
All new referrals are triaged, and available appointment times allocated based of clinical urgency. All patients are automatically added to a cancellation list that can be utilised in the event of someone else changing or cancelling their appointment.
How do I make an appointment?
Once your referral has been triaged, our reception staff will call you to make an appointment. At this stage they will establish your preferred method of communication.
What details do I need to provide?
At the time of making your first appointment the reception staff will explain how to complete your Registration and Health Questionnaire. Both are very important for us to prepare for your appointment.
The reception staff will also ask you to pay a $100 booking deposit. The amount is taken off the consultation cost after the appointment or held in the event of non-attendance.
Will I receive an appointment confirmation?
The reception staff will send a letter of confirmation of your appointment with the Registration Form and Health Questionnaire. You will also be sent a SMS reminder a few days before the appointment.
Can I change or cancel my appointment?
If you wish to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please contact our reception staff directly on 02 9052 1896. Cancellations and rescheduling require at least 2 business days’ notice otherwise a non-Medicare refundable cancellation fee will be charged.

The initial consultation is approximately 45 minutes and subsequent appointments are 20-30 minutes duration.
How much does an appointment cost?
Please contact reception on 02 9052 1896 to get a better idea of the costs for your appointment. Manly Haematology is a private haematology clinic and fees will apply. It is not a bulk-billing clinic.
Although Manly Haematology charges less than the Australian Medical Association’s (AMA) recommended rates, there are out-of-pocket expenses (gap fees). Our practice does not receive funding from any source other than our patients (the government does not provide any form of financial support for private practices). The charges will reflect the complexity of your health matters and the length of consultation.
If you have an eligible referral and are registered with Medicare, you should be entitled to a Medicare rebate. The amount of the rebate refunded to you by Medicare will depend on the type of consultation you have had. The Medicare rebate can be lodged at the time of payment.
If you need to have to attend multiple private specialists, you might be entitled for the Medicare Safety Net. This may provide you with additional rebates for your out-of-pocket costs for the calendar year. Individuals are registered automatically for the safety net. It is helpful to check with Medicare that your family unit is registered for the safety net through their website (www.medicareaustralia.gov.au).
Please note private health insurance does not cover outpatient medical consultations and additional fees may be involved when patients are referred to pathology, ultrasound specialists or other health care providers.
How do I pay?
If you and your bank account is registered with Medicare your rebate will be deposited into your bank account automatically.
